Giraffes

Giraffes are the tallest land animal in the world! They can grow up to 19 feet tall! When a baby giraffe is born sometimes it is 6 feet tall.

Giraffes don’t have to drink water as often as humans do, because they get most of their water when they eat plants. They mostly eat leaves from trees and bushes. Grazing is hard for them because their legs and necks are so long and it is hard for them to eat from the ground.

The taller giraffes eat from the tops of the trees leaving the lower leaves for the shorter giraffes.

Giraffes don’t have to sleep much at all, they sleep about 20 minutes every 24 hours but they do take short naps.

Giraffes can live up to 25 years.
